Robert Jones (artilleryman)

'captain' Robert Jones (c.1740–c.1778) was a lieutenant in the artillery corps of the British Army. He was known for popularising figure skating in Great Britain and his 1772 trial for sodomy.[1]

He wrote a book, A Treatise on Skating which was published in London in 1772, went through several print runs. It was still in print in 2010 as a digitised copy of the first edition. [2] He also wrote A New Treatise on Artificial Fireworks, which was published in 1765.[3]
