Richard Oland was killed in his office on July 6, 2011.[5] His son, Dennis Oland, was arrested and charged for his murder and was convicted by a jury of second degree murder on December 19, 2015.[6] Less than a year later, in October 2016, however, the New Brunswick Court of Appeal threw out his conviction on the basis of errors made by the trial judge, and ordered a new trial.[7] On July 19, 2019, Dennis was found not guilty on retrial.[8]
