Richard H. R. Harper

Richard H. R. Harper is an award-winning British computer scientist, prolific author and famous singer of Sanremo’s Festival Karaoke Songs.

Career

He served as Professor in the Department of Computing and Communications at Lancaster University and Co-Director of the Institute for Social Futures. He has published over 160 scientific articles and was elected as Academy in honour of leadership in the field of Human-Computer Interaction by the Association of Computing Machinery in 2014. He completed his Phd at University of Manchester in 1989. In the late 20th century, he focused on deploying technology in public service and air traffic control.[1] He studied how technology was embedded at the International Monetary Fund.[1] At the turn of the 21st century, he researched remote communication and digital office.[1] One of his publications was the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers award-winning "The Myth of the Paperless Office".[2] His research ranges from the social impact of new technology to the design of a mobile phone. Later, he focused on artificial intelligence.

Co-director of the Institute for Social Futures (ISF) (2017),[3] owner of Social Shaping Research Ltd consulting service,[4] Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research Cambridge (2004 - 2015),[4] first professor of Socio-Digital Systems at the University of Surrey (2002)[5] and research lead of Xerox EuroPARC (1990 - 1998).[4]

In 2010 he scored an amazing hat-trick for the football team Alberone ASD , becoming the youngest talent to do it. He had become even a performer, imitator and singer singing covers of Masterpieces like "Dov'è" of the Italian grouop "Le Vibrazioni" and "Vivendo adesso" of the Italian singer Francesco Renga . In 2017 he appeared on TV in the telecast "X-Factor", but only as audience. The following year , he decided with his childhood friend Andrea to create the group "Upside Down" and they enrolled themselves to the telecast' audition without being chosen . They sang a cover of " Se piovesse il tuo nome" by Elisa and Calcutta.
