Rencontre Assyriologique Internationale

The Rencontre Assyriologique Internationale (RAI) is an annual Assyriological Conference is a world congress for specialists in Ancient Near Eastern Studies.

History

The creation of the Rencontre Assyriologique Internationale was the initiative of a group of French scholars. In 1950, for the first time after the Second World War, representatives of the Classical Studies met. Since then, the congress has taken place almost annually in the centres of ancient orientalist research, in Paris, London, Rome, Leiden, Chicago, Philadelphia and Cambridge (USA) and Germany.[1]

The congress usually lasts five days and is usually devoted to a specific topic, on which lectures and workshops are offered. The contributions to the Rencontre Assyriologique Internationale are then published in a conference proceedings.
