Platform 0

Platform 0 is a platform number at various railway stations around the world, particularly in the United Kingdom. It is usually a result of constructing a new platform next to the existing platform 1. To avoid having to renumber and replace signage for all other platforms, as well as confusing passengers who are familiar with the existing platform layout, the new platform is simply named "Platform 0" in an example of zero-based numbering.

The following stations in the United Kingdom have a Platform 0; this is not necessarily an exhaustive list [1]:

As of 2020, a new Platform 0 was also reported as being built at Leeds railway station.[8][9]

Outside of the United Kingdom, Lidcombe railway station in Sydney has a platform 0.[10] In Japan, Kyoto Station, Haruda Station and Hashioka Station have a platform 0.

In Switzerland, Aarau station has a Platform 0.[11]

Platform 0 in Madrid (Spanish: Andén 0) is not a railway platform, but the Madrid Metro's railway museum at the former Chamberí metro station.[12]
