Animoca Brands (Animoca Brands Corporation Ltd) was founded in January 2014 by Yat Siu and is a spin-off of Animoca (Appionics Holdings Ltd.).[3] Animoca Brands is a global developer leveraging popular brands, gamification, AI, blockchain, and mobile technology to make engaging apps ranging from games to fitness solutions. With its subsidiaries Zeroth.ai, Brinc AOA and Leade.rs it is also a VC/accelerator. Animoca Brands ranked 5th in BlockchainGamer.biz’s list of Top 50 blockchain companies 2020.[4] The Company is based in Hong Kong, Canada, Finland, and Argentina.

Zeroth.ai

Animoca Brands owns 67% of Zeroth.ai.[10] Zeroth is an early-stage startup incubator focusing on artificial intelligence and machine learning companies. So far more than 60 companies from 15 countries have been supported with sums ranging from $20,000 to $120,000. In return, Zeroth receives 6% of the shares in each company. Zeroth.ai has a partnership with the Incubator and VC DEEPCORE, a company of the SoftBank group.

Fuel Powered

Animoca Brands owns 60% of the shares in Fuel Powered, a multiplayer and live event service provider for mobile games.[11]

iCandy Interactive

Animoca Brands owns 15.5% company shares of iCandy Interactive Limited.[12]

HTC

Animoca Brands has a partnership with HTC. This includes product development and collaboration in the areas of games, blockchain, artificial intelligence, machine learning, augmented reality and virtual reality.[25]

iClick Interactive Asia Limited

Animoca Brands has a partnership with iClick Interactive Asia Limited. The deal is expected to generate $8 million in revenues for Animoca in 2019.[26]

Softbanks Deepcore

Animoca Brands' subsidiary Zeroth.ai and Softbanks Deepcore have a partnership.[27]

Atari

Animoca Brands has a partnership with Atari. As a pilot project Animoca develops a blockchain version of RollerCoaster Tycoon.[28]

Funding

On November 15, 2011, Animoca raised an undisclosed amount of funding in a Series A round led by Intel Capital and IDG-Accel (which tapped its China Growth Fund III).[29]

On August 15, 2018, Animoca raised $1 million investment by Sun Hung Kai and $0.5 million by strategic partner Lympo.[30]

On December 18, 2018, Animoca Brands announced that it has completed a ~A$715k placement to institutional and sophisticated investors.[31]

In May 2019, Animoca raised $2.5 million in funding for the rebuilding of The Sandbox to be a blockchain gaming platform with user-generated content.[32] In Q3/2019, Animoca's The Sandbox raised another $2.01 million in cash and cryptocurrency. Investors included Square Enix, B Cryptos, and True Global Ventures.[33][34]
