Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum

The Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum is located in Wembley, Alberta. It was named for Canadian paleontologist Philip J. Currie. The museum opened in September 2015 under the leadership of the founding President & CEO, George Jacob,(https://www.mygrandeprairienow.com/10857/dino-museum-ceo-named-influential-albertan/) winning 9 awards in 9 months. Its location was chosen, in part, due to the proximity of a creek known as the River of Death that has been the source of significant fossil finds.[1] Among the museum's highlights is a skeleton of a Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai dinosaur, considered native to the area.[2]

It is part of a larger plan to make the town a stop for paleontology tourists who also visit the Tumbler Ridge Museum in British Columbia.[3] The museum has a partnership with National Geographic and drew more than 100,000 visitors in its first eleven months of operation, more than double the projections.[4][5]

In 2014, the museum's building, designed by Teeple Architects, was named by Azure as one of their top ten projects to follow that year.[6] Its 2015 opening was recognized as one of the top museum openings worldwide by Conde Nast Traveler.[7]
