Background

Eric Levi, French composer and rock artist,[4] met Roxanne Seeman in Paris at the Warner/Chappell Music France office. While working on his score for La Vengeance d'une Blonde Levi sent Seeman a tape with a track idea for a song, asking whether she would like to collaborate on it with him. Seeman played it for Philip Bailey, whom she was collaborating with.[5] Levi suggested they write the song for the end-credit song of the movie he was scoring. Roxanne Seeman, Philip Bailey and Eric Levi collaborated on the writing and recording of the song.[6]

Recording

The recording of People and Places took place in Paris with Eric Lévi on keyboards and Philippe Manca on guitar.[7]

The vocals were recorded as a duet between Philip Bailey and Dee Dee Bridgewater, with Philip Bailey recording vocals in Los Angeles and Dee Dee Bridgewater recording her vocals in Paris. The final mix was at Studio Mega.[8]

Soundtrack

"People and Places" appears on the La Vengeance d'une Blonde album soundtrack three times: track 1 – single, track 4 – club mix, track 13 – instrumental.[9][10]

The "People and Places" single, club mix and album soundtrack were released by BMG France in 1994 with the release of the film.

"People and Places" was included as a bonus track on the Japan album release of Philip Bailey's 1994 solo album Philip Bailey album.
