Orthocarpus bracteosus

Orthocarpus bracteosus is a species of flowering plant in the broomrape family known by the common name rosy owl's-clover. It is native to western North America from British Columbia to northern California, where it grows in moist mountain habitat, such as meadows.

Description

Orthocarpus bracteosus is an annual herb producing a slender, glandular, hairy, purple-green stem up to about 40 centimetres (16 in) tall. The narrow leaves are up to 3.5 centimetres (1 12 in) long, the upper ones divided into three deep lobes. The inflorescence is a hairy, densely glandular spike of flowers. Each flower is bright pink to white and up to 2 centimetres (45 in) long. It is club-shaped with a pouchlike lower lip and a narrow, hooked upper lip. The fruit is an oval-shaped capsule about one-half centimetre (15 in) long containing several seeds.
