Olivier Desmarais

Olivier Desmarais is a Canadian businessman. He is the son of André Desmarais and the grandson of Paul Desmarais and former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien.

Biography

Desmarais was educated at Selwyn House School[1] for primary and secondary school[2] and holds a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Political Science from McGill University.[3]

A member of the Québec Bar since 2009, Desmarais became Vice-President of Power Corporation of Canada and Power Financial in 2014. He has been Chairman of Power Energy Corporation since 2015. Since January 2017, he has been Senior Vice-President of Power Corporation and Power Financial.[4][5][6] In August 2016, the Wall Street Journal stated that Desmarais and his cousin Paul Desmarais III were preparing to take over from their fathers at the head of Power Corporation in a few years.[7][8]

He is a Director of Great-West Life, Investors Group, and Mackenzie.[9] In November 2018, Desmarais was named Chair of the Canada-China Business Council (CCBC).[10]. He is also a board member of the Montreal General Hospital Foundation,[11] and the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.[12]
