Ohio House of Representatives, 78th District

The Ohio House of Representatives, 78th District, is located in Pickaway County, Ohio, Hocking County, Ohio, Morgan County, Ohio, Fairfield County, Ohio and small parts of Athens and Muskingum counties, with the major population centers being Circleville, Ohio and Logan, Ohio, as well as several villages. District 78 is primary a rural district, but falls within the Columbus Metro area. The district's boundaries were last redrawn in 2012 and the seat has been held by Republican Ron Hood since its redistricting. [1]

Ron Hood (R–Ashville), who has served the District since 2013, is unable to re-run for the office because of term limits.

Republican primary

Candidates

Three Republicans were certified to be on the ballot to replace the term-limited Hood. Aaron Adams, of Kingston, aims to be the first Generation Z candidate in Ohio to hold a public office[2]. Bobby Mitchell, of Canal Winchester, is a local pastor[3] who previously ran an ultimately unsuccessful campaign in 2018 for the Ohio House of Representatives, 20th District seat[4]. Brian Stewart, of Ashville, is an attorney who is a two-term Pickaway County Commissioner[5].

Candidates

Charlotte Owens, Ph.D., is running unopposed in the Democratic Primary for the seat. She is a former high school teacher and currently an instructor at Central Ohio Technical College and Ohio University–Lancaster. In November 2019, she was re-elected for the third time to the board of the Fairfield County Educational Service Center.[6]
