Novoland: Pearl Eclipse (Chinese: 斛珠夫人; pinyin: Húzhū fūrén) is an upcoming Chinese television series starring Yang Mi and William Chan, and is based on Xiao Ruse's novel with the same name.

Synopsis

During the Zheng Dynasty, efforts to obtain the rare Naga pearl causes an entire merfolk tribe to become completely slaughtered, causing the tribe's one survivor Ye Haishi to beg the passing first minister Fang Zhu to take her under his wing as his disciple. Disguised as a male, she enters the imperial court as the emperor Zhu Zhongxu's bodyguard. The emperor develops feelings for her, while Haishi falls for Fang Zhu.[1]

Production

Originally expected to be 40 episodes, production extended the number to 55 in September 2017.[1] In November 2018, Yang Mi attended Tencent drama-round up press conference to announce her upcoming role in the Novoland franchise.[2] After paparazzi images of the actors in costume surfaced online, production officially announced the cast with character posters in early May 2020.[3]
