History
The southern part of the building was constructed, possibly as a meeting place for the Guild of Newport, in around 1400.[1] The northern part of the building was constructed in the late 16th century.[1] The two buildings were unified as a single building in the early 19th century.[2] The unified building was acquired by the Boughey Trust and made available, rent-free, to Newport Town Council who restored it and re-opened it to the public in March 1995.[2] It is now used as a council information centre.[3]
