Newbury High School

Newbury High School was a public high school in Newbury Township, Geauga County, Ohio from 1927-2020. At the conclusion of the 2019-20 academic year, the school executed a territory transfer to the West Geauga School System.

The school announced in April 2014 that the newest building constructed in the 1970s will no longer host Grades 4-6 due to declining enrollment and budget shortfalls.[3] In 2015, it was announced that the Geauga County Public Library will relocate the Newbury Station into this building.[4] On January 8, 2019, it was announced the Newbury Local School District will merge with West Geauga Local Schools beginning with the 2020-2021 school year. [5]

Athletics

Nicknamed the Black Knights, Newbury High School offered multiple sports for both boys and girls, including soccer, football, wrestling, baseball, cross country and track (boys), cross country and track (girls), volleyball, and basketball.

Through 1998, the Black Knights were part of the East Suburban Conference. For the 1998-99 academic year, Newbury joined the Chagrin Valley Conference, remaining there until they joined the Northeastern Athletic Conference in 2014, where they remained until the closure of the school in 2020.
