New York International Olive Oil Competition

The New York International Olive Oil Competition (NYIOOC) is an annual extra virgin olive oil competition founded in 2013 by Curtis Cord, the publisher of the trade journal Olive Oil Times.[1] The 2018 NYIOOC was held April 23-26 and attracted 1,000 entries from 27 countries.[2] It is the largest international olive oil competition in the world.[3]

Extra virgin olive oil brands may be entered in the competition by any company or organization responsible for the brand in the market. This can be a farm, mill, cooperative, bottler, importer, distributor or marketer. The entry fee for the 2018 competition was $300 before January 1, 2018 (the "early registration period") and $350 between January 1 until the close of registration.[4]

In the 2018 NYIOOC there were 1,000 entries and 522 winners, including 334 Gold Awards, 172 Silver Awards and 16 Best in Class Awards. Italy won the most awards (152), followed by Spain (93). The United States won 75 awards, producers from Greece won 54 awards and Croatia won 40.[5]

The winners are announced at a press conference in New York on the last day of judging.[6]
