Neil R. Powe

Neil R. Powe is an American physician who is the Constance B. Wofsy Distinguished Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and the Chief of Medicine at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (.[1] Powe has performed clinical and population-based research particularly related to kidney disease and health disparities that have changed how health care is delivered and health outcomes are improved.[2][3][4][5][6]

Biography

Powe was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Central High School and is an alumnus in the school's Hall of Fame. Powe earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Princeton University, a medical degree at Harvard Medical School and a master’s in public health at Harvard School of Public Health. He completed residency in internal medicine, was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar and completed a master’s in business administration at the University of Pennsylvania.

Powe joined the faculty of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Bloomberg School of Public Health in 1986. He rose to become the James F. Fries University Distinguished Professor at the Johns Hopkins University where he directed the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research and the Training, Education and Career Development Programs for the Clinical and Translational Science Institute prior to joining the University of California, San Francisco.
