Natee Utarit (Thai: นที อุตฤทธิ์, born 9 April 1970) is a contemporary artist from Bangkok, Thailand.[1]

Biography

Natee Utarit was born in 1970 in Bangkok. He graduated from Silpakorn University majoring in Graphic Arts (Fine Arts) at the Painting and Sculpture Faculty.[2]

His artworks often involve with the relationships between historical arts such as Renaissance art from the Western world. Natee Utarit often questions the world of contemporary art through his aesthetics skills; creating metaphors on all his artworks. His works has been gradually growing since the 1980s, and by the late 1990s and early 2000s, he won numerous awards such as Art Game Changer Award from Asia Society.[3][4]

Professional career and exhibitions

Natee's works have been described as a combination of philosophy, beliefs, religious view, history, knowledge on various elements from various centuries and experimentation (on connecting between his artworks and historical cultures from the Western world).[5] The artist also uses photographs as a communication tool, creating a visionary view presenting cultures and an informative background on the relationships between Western and Eastern cultures, respectively.[6] Thus, Natee's works often be regard as finding newer perspective by creating a figurative which differs from the origin / tradition views. With that, the artist's uses of sociopolitical and religious point of views to craft up his works of arts, reflecting both contemporary point of view and hidden messages for the audience to comprehends through various visuals and forms.[7]

Natee's works included are "Optimism is Ridiculous: The Altarpieces", a solo exhibitions which been exhibited various countries in both museums level and art institutions.[8] In the year 2018, the book "Natee Utarit: Optimism is Ridiculous" was published. The book includes information on history of fine arts and research on the painting itself. Moreover, Demetrio Paparoni (an curator, art critique and writer from Italy) takes the honour and privilege on the making of this book.

Other books written on Natee Utarit also includes "Natee Utarit: After Painting" written by Singapore Art Museum in the year 2010 & "Natee Utarit: Illustration of the Crisis" published by Richard Koh Fine Arts in the year 2013.
