Nar Bahadur Chhetri

Subedar Major Nar Bahadur Chhetri, MVC (27 Mar 1950 – ) was an officer in the Indian Army. He was awarded the second highest Indian military honour, Maha Vir Chakra for his actions during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.[2]

Personal life

Subedar Major Nar Bahadur Chhetri was born on 27 Mar 1950 in Doorali village, Gulmi district, Nepal.

Military Career

Subedar Major Nar Bahadur Chhetri joined the Indian Army into Brigade of the Guards on 27 March 1968.

At the time of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, Nar Bahadur Chhetri was serving as Lance Naik, with his platoon and was deployed at the Chhamb crossing over the Munawar Tawi on the Western sector, in Punjab theatre. On 4 December 1971, the enemy launched a massive attack with a combined force of infantry and armour. L/Nk Chhetri's position came under intense artillery mortar and automatic fire. However, with complete disregard for his personal safety, L/Nk Chhetri engaged the enemy and knocked out five enemy tanks.[3] For his bravery and for successfully stopping the Pakistani attack, he was awarded the second highest Indian military honour, Maha Vir Chakra.
