Mustafa Akhwand

Mustafa Akhwand is the founder of the human rights organization Shia Rights Watch,[1] which is dedicated to protecting and preventing violence against Shia Muslims. He has been awarded by the Human Rights Education Associates for his work on minority rights, as well as for his achievements in conflict analysis from the United States Institute of Peace. Due to his work with graduate students in Washington DC, he has been nominated as the best internship site supervisor.

Accomplishments

Prior to joining Shia Rights Watch, he managed a nonviolence organization called the Freemuslim Association, mainly in Middle Eastern countries such as Iraq. Akhwand also led the initiative of defining anti-shi’ism, which was introduced by Shia Rights Watch in 2011. He also led the initiative to create the only platform that helps oppressed people all around the world connect and send their real time concerns via their smart phone or tablet devices to the Shia Rights Watch server. Akhwand has been a columnist in Digital community and editor[2] in Telegram7[3] writing about thread of terrorism, and roots of extremism insisting to create a solution to prevent violence against minorities. He has been interviewed with the United States of common sense in addressing Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and the rise of extremism in Saudi Arabia.[4] He has spoken in Washington Center introducing the true Shia Muslims and description of peace in Islam, presented Minority in prison in United Nation, Geneva and Bahrain policies of oppression and impunity in Beirut Lebanon.[5]

Family background

Akhwand was born in 1980 to the family of Mohammad Taqi Zakary, a religious scholar and psychologist who specialized in family relations and also serves as a representative of Grand Ayatollah Sayed Sadiq Shirazi.

Education

Master of Conflict Analysis and Resolution, GMU[6] Mustafa is a programmer with a B.A in Applied information technology with five years of experience in the field of web development which has led to many successful websites and database. Certification in Conflict analysis for the United States Institute of Peace and Minority rights form Human rights education association.
