Music schools in India
Music schools have been said to be a lucrative business in India which can be started with minimum investment and low risk.[1] At present, Music education is considered an important but poor section of the education sector in India due to lack of interest by students. In particular, the classical music genre is said to lag behind as less students opt for it.[2]
Universities and colleges
Some of the universities and colleges of music in India are :
- Bhatkhande Music Institute - A renowned music institute in Lucknow
- University of Delhi - which offers a competitive post-graduation degree in music and a Doctor of Philosophy in Music.[3]
- University of Calcutta which offers a faculty department in Music[4]
- University of Madras in Chennai
- Indira Kala Sangeet University in Chhattisgarh
- Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music near Chennai, Which offer's Diploma in Music Performance & Diploma in Audio Engineering and Music Technology in the Campus
Visva-Bharati University
The Visva Bharati University could be said to be one of the first schools of music in India. Founded by Rabindranath Tagore in 1921. It has been said to be the starting point for music education in India[5]
