Muhammad Najeeb Naqi Khan

Dr Muhammad Najeeb Naqi Khanڈاکٹرمحمد نجیب نقی خان is a Kashmiri Politician and currently serving as Minister for Health and Finance in Azad Jammu & Kashmir Government.

Early life and career

Najeeb Naqi Khan was born on 19 January 1964 in Rawalpindi. Najeeb Naqi's hometown is Dardar Chah Namb. He received his initial education (1970–1982) from Aitchison College, a renowned archeological institution in Lahore and later graduated from King Edward Medical University, Lahore in 1988 with an MBBS degree. Dr. was also fond of sports. He represented his college in a number of lawn tennis competitions and won many prizes.

Political career

Dr Najeeb Naqi belongs from a political family, his grandfather Baba-e-Poonch KhanSahib Colonel Khan Muhammad Khan was member of Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly from 1934 to 1946 and played a pivotal role in Azad Kashmir's war of Independence by serving as chairman of war council. KhanSahib's son and Dr Najeeb's father Col Muhammad Naqi Khan was also in politics and got elected in 1985 to the Legislative Assembly of Azad Kashmir and served as Minister for Health,Food and Information in AJK Government. His biggest accomplishment was the Establishment of first ever Cadet College in Azad Kashmir which was Cadet College Pallandri.

Dr Najeeb Naqi entered politics after the death of his father on the eve of general elections in AJK in 1990. Since then, Dr Najeeb Naqi has been elected five times to the Legislative Assembly of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (1991,1996,2006,2011,2016). He has served once as Member of Kashmir Council as well from 2001-2006.

In the 1991 elections, Dr. Najeeb Naqi got elected for the first time to the legislative Assembly of Azad Kashmir. The then Prime Minister Sardar Muhammad Abdul Qayyum Khan offered the ministry to Dr. Najeeb Naqi Khan in return for backing the district's demand, but Dr Najeeb was aware of the plight of his people. So he rejected the ministry and expressed his want to make Sudhanoti a district. Finally, in 1995, Sudhanoti was declared a district.

Dr. Najeeb Naqi has always strived for the develop of the district. In this regard, Dr. Najeeb Naqi along with the present Prime Minister Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider Khan asked the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to increase the development budget of the state from 12 billion to 23 billion and formulated an action plan of development projects for the whole of Kashmir. Several measures were implemented to improve the health sector, including providing free emergency services to hospitals around the clock
