Michael G. McGovern

Michael G. McGovern (born July 1, 1964) is an American priest of the Catholic Church. He will serve as bishop for the Diocese of Belleville in 2020.

Biography

McGovern is a native of the Chicago's Beverly neighborhood, and grew up in a large Catholic family in which Catholic education was emphasized.[1] He is a graduate of St. Ignatius College Prep and Loyola University where he earned a bachelor's degree in sacred theology, studied law at DePaul University College of Law until entering the University of St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, Illinois in 1990.[1] On May 21, 1994, McGovern was ordained to the priesthood. He has served pastor of St. Raphael the Archangel Parish in Old Mill Creek and Dean of Deanery 1-A, and was later named as the interim Vicar of the Archdiocese of Chicago in February 2020.[2]

Bishop of Belleville

Pope Francis appointed McGovern bishop for the Diocese of Belleville on April 3, 2020.[3][4][5] In 2020, McGovern will be consecrated as a bishop and installed at Belleville. The Diocese of Belleville happily announces that Wednesday, July 22, 2020, in the Cathedral of St. Peter, will be the date and place for the Ordination and Installation of Bishop-Elect Michael G. McGovern as the Ninth Bishop of Belleville. The Ordination Liturgy will begin at 2:00 PM CST. .[1]
