Dorff taught high school for four years after receiving his BA in Mathematics Education.[1] He received his MS from University of New Hampshire[1] followed by a Ph.D. from University of Kentucky in 1997.[2] He taught at University of Missouri-Rolla until he was hired by Brigham Young University in 2000.[1]
Dorff is the founder of the NSF-funded Center for Undergraduate Research in Mathematics[3][4] and the co-founder of the NSF-funded PIC Math program.[5][6]
Awards and honors
From 2005 to 2006, Dorff was a Fulbright scholar in Poland.[1]
In 2009, Dorff received the Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics.[3]
In 2012, Dorff became a fellow of the American Mathematical Society.[7] In 2017, Dorff was elected President of the Mathematical Association of America, to serve 2018–2020.[8]
