Meet the Izzards

Meet the Izzards is a two-part BBC One documentary in which actor and comedian Eddie Izzard uses genetics to trace his distant ancestry.

The first part titled "The Mum's Line" uses his mitochondrial DNA to trace his maternal line. Izzard thus travels to Africa, then on to the Middle East, Turkey, Italy, Denmark and ends in England.[1] Prior to traveling to Denmark Izzard learns that his mitochondrial DNA belongs to the haplogroup T2f1a1.[2]

The second part titled "The Dad's Line" uses his Y-chromosomal DNA to trace his paternal line. Also in this episode Izzard travels to Africa, this time Cameroon, and again returns to England via the Middle East.[3] This episode reveals that Izzard belongs to the Y haplogroup I-M223.[4]
