He competed in the 1952 and 1956 Olympics Games.
He represented England in the -56kg division at the 1950 British Empire Games in Auckland, New Zealand.[1] Four years later he won the gold medal for England at the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games.[2]

He was born in London but lived in Leeds.
