Maurice Flynn (presenter)

Maurice Flynn (born 12 June 1976) is an Irish journalist and presenter, currently employed by the BBC and best known for presenting BBC Points West and BBC East Midlands Today.

Early life

Born in the Blackstairs Mountains near Graiguenamanagh between Kilkenny and Waterford in Ireland, Maurice's family moved to the Gloucestershire-Oxfordshire borders in England in the mid 1980s.

Career history

Maurice Flynn is a presenter for the BBC news programme BBC East Midlands Today in the East Midlands of England.

Maurice was a teenager when he started his broadcasting career at Fox FM (now Heart Oxfordshire) in Oxford. While studying Multi-Media Journalism at Bournemouth University he began working as a journalist and newsreader for BBC Radio Oxford, and continued there when he left university. He moved to television working for HTV West in Bristol before returning to the BBC at BBC Points West where he worked as a presenter, reporter and producer.

Maurice left BBC Points West to study Garden Design and Horticulture at Pershore College in Worcestershire. While studying he continued broadcasting; co-presenting and producing "Fresh", a homes and garden show on BBC Radio Wiltshire; presenting and producing the rural affairs show "Rural Matters" for Horse & Country Television; producing for BBC Midlands Today and BBC South Today; and presenting for BBC News from Television Centre in London.

After finishing his studies at Pershore College, Maurice continued presenting at weekends for BBC News in London.

In Autumn 2009 the BBC increased its regional television news output at weekends across England, Scotland and Wales. Maurice relocated to Nottingham to become a Senior Broadcast Journalist, presenting and producing the BBC's weekend output for the East Midlands.
