Maureen Young

Maureen Young (1915 – 2013), was professor of perinatal physiology at St Thomas's Hospital Medical School, London.[1]

Personal life

Young graduated in medicine from Bedford College for Women in 1938, and then worked there as a demonstrator and lecturer.[2]

Career

During the war, she was evacuated to Cambridge where she met Sir Joseph Barcroft, and began a lifelong interest in foetal physiology.[2] Young went to St. Thomas's Hospital Medical School in 1946, and was professor of perinatal physiology from 1976 until she retired in 1982.[2] She assisted in the formation of both the Neonatal Society as well as the Blair Bell Research Society.[3] She was appointed President of the Neonatal Society.[3]
