Matthew Shribman

Matthew Jebediah Shribman, MChem (Oxon) (born 15 June 1989) is an Irish–British science communicator, environmentalist and musician.

Shribman is the founder of #NoBeef,[1] an organisation that works with the University of Cambridge[2] to communicate the environmental impact of ruminant meat and reduce its consumption in institutions.

Career

Science communication and environmentalism

In 2017, Shribman gave a talk for TEDx London at the Sadler's Wells Theatre.[3]

The following year, Shribman founded the environmental organisation, #NoBeef.[1]

Shribman has given talks for Extinction Rebellion[4] and at UK festivals including WOMAD,[5] Bestival[6] and Shambala.[7]

In 2019, Shribman organised for 1,000 trees to appear outside the UK parliament,[8] with the first 650 allocated to British MPs.[9][10] Over 400 MPs collected trees.[11][12]

Shribman’s first short film, Losing Ground, about climate change and soil degradation in East Africa, was released in 2019.[13] It was supported by the French Research Institute For Development.[13]

Shribman has appeared on Blue Peter.[14]

He is an editorial advisor to the World Congress of Science & Factual Producers.[15]

In January 2020, Shribman released a short environmental film called Plastic in the Air. The film made the news in Australia,[16] New Zealand[17] and the United Kingdom.[18]

Music

Shribman originally released music under the twin hidden,[19] with childhood friend Sam Lea.[20] The band was supported by BBC Radio 1,[21] Clash[20] , The Guardian[22] and 6Music,[23][24] and in 2017, twin hidden was featured on The Sunday Times' Hottest Tracks.[25] Shribman's music is now released under the name Ash Lad.[26]
