Maragatham is a 1959 Indian Tamil crime-thriller film, directed by S. M. Sriramulu Naidu, who also co-produced the film along with K. R. Seenivasan and N. Naga Subramaniyam. The film stars Sivaji Ganesan, Padmini, Balachander and Sandhya in lead roles. The film had musical score by S. M. Subbaiah Naidu.[1][2] The movie is based on a novel by D. S. Duraisami, named as Karunkuyil Kunrathu Kolai.

Soundtrack

The music was composed by S. M. Subbaiah Naidu,[3] with lyrics by Yogi Shuddhananda Bharathiar, Papanasam Sivan, Ku. Ma. Balasubramaniam & Ra. Balu. Singer is J. P. Chandrababu. Playback singers are T. M. Soundararajan, Jaya Lakshmi, P. Leela & Jamunarani.

Kunguma Poovey Konjum Puraavey, a hit — the song is popular even after half a century. However, there is a controversy about this song. It is said that the tune for this song was composed by T. G. Lingappa for the film Sabaash Meena. But for some reason, Chandrababu refused to sing the song for that film. Later he gave this tune to S. M. Subbaiah Naidu and got it included in this film.[4]
