María Guðmundsdóttir (filmmaker)

María Guðmundsdóttir (born 12 February 1942) is an Icelandic filmmaker, photographer and actor. She is a former supermodel and Miss Iceland 1961.

Biography

María was born in Reykjavík and grew up in Djúpuvík.[1] She was crowned Miss Iceland in 1961.[2] By 1967 she was modeling for Eileen Ford in New York.[3]

Since 1980, she has acted in, produced, and directed a number of films, most recently Ferðin heim - smásögur úr Árneshreppi á Ströndum, a 2015 documentary she produced and directed about the people of Árneshreppur, the municipality where she grew up.[4]
