Maiia Khromykh

Maiia began learning how to skate in 2009 as early as at the age of three.[1]. She was coached by Anna Boldina and subsequently by Anna Tsareva at Sambo-70 'Khrustalniy' until autumn 2018. She is now coached by Eteri Tutberidze, Daniil Gleikhengauz and Sergei Dudakov.

In February 2020, scoring 204.40 in total, Maiia took 5th position at the Russian Junior Nationals 2020, Junior Ladies held in Saransk, Mordovia.[10] At the 2019 Russian Cup Final held in Novgorod, Russia, Maiia scored 201.06 in total winning junior ladies' gold with Daria Usacheva to claim silver with a total score of 189.83 points and Anna Frolova claiming bronze with the score of 189.38 points.[11]

On international arena, Maiia debuted in the 2019/2020 skating season in August 2019 at the 2019 JGP France in Courchevel.[12][13] Although she won the short program,[14][15] she ranked fifth in the free skate, and overall finished third[16][17] behind fellow Russian Kamila Valieva winning gold[18] and South Korean silver medalist Seoyeong Wi.[19]

At her second assignment, the 2019 JGP Latvia in September, Maiia ranked second after the short program,[20] but felt to fourth in the free skate standings, and finished in the fourth place overall.[21]

Competing at the Denis Ten Memorial Challenge held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Maiia won silver medal behind her fellow Russian Daria Usacheva.[22]

During her first season competing on the international level, she was selected as one of the three main entries to represent Russia[23] in the 2020 World Junior Figure Skating Championships.[24][25] Maiia made a small mistake in her SP and finished 5th in the segment. In the free skate she made an error on her quad Salchow attempt, but avoided fall and skated the rest of the program clean. She achieved her new personal best score for her free skate and total score. She finished on fourth place overall.[26]
