Longest tennis match records
This article details longest tennis match records by duration or number of games. The 1970–1973 introduction of the tiebreak reduced the opportunity for such records to be broken. However, among the Grand Slams, the US Open, Australian Open (since 2019) and Wimbledon (since 2019) use the tiebreak in the final set, while the French Open remains the only Grand Slam to use the advantage set rules in the final set, which allows for an indefinite number of games until one player is ahead by two.
Overall
Only two professional competitive matches have lasted longer than seven hours and 13 matches have lasted longer than six hours.[1]

Women's singles
The longest women's match (by time) took place at a tournament in Richmond, Virginia, in 1984, when Vicki Nelson took 6 hours, 31 minutes to defeat Jean Hepner 6–4, 7–6(13–11). The match featured a 29-minute, 643-shot rally, the longest in professional tennis history, though no video exists of this point.[7]
Unlike men's singles matches, where Grand Slam events are still played over the best of five sets, all women's matches are now played as the best of three sets. This means that there is a far greater likelihood of a match in any tournament being long enough to be included in this table. All matches since January 1 2019 are included, but there are likely to be many more from earlier years which have not yet been recognised, especially as qualifying matches in ITF tournaments would normally have been played over the best of three tie-break sets.
Where different sources give durations for a particular match, the shortest elapsed time will be the one noted below.
- = winner of the match also won the tournament.

Note 1: these matches took place on the same day. They were played on adjacent courts, and were in progress simultaneously for more than two hours.
Note 2: this match is the longest in women's history that was not played to a finish.
Note 3: these matches took place on the same day.
Note 4: these matches took place on the same day.
Note 5: Korpatsch played both the quarter-final and semi-final on 31 August. She won the final the following day.
Note 6: these matches took place on the same day.
Note 7: the first set had one 16 point and two 20 point games.
Note 8: these matches took place on the same day.
Note 9: these matches took place on the same day. Farulla Di Palma and Plazas also teamed up to play doubles later that day.
Note 10: the first game in this match took 21 minutes (28 points), and the second game took 13 minutes (14 points).
Note 11: these matches took place on consecutive days.
Note 12: the duration is shown in the main data for this match as 3 hours and 34 minutes, but the expanded data shows the duration as 3 hours and 30 minutes. The duration listed for the individual sets also adds up to 3 hours and 30 minutes.
Note 13: the WTA website gives the duration as 3 hours and 33 minutes, but SofaScore shows 3 hours and 31 minutes. The difference is almost certainly due to how the stoppage time for a long rain break in the second set was recorded.
Note 14: there was a 26 point game in the third set.
Note 15: there was a 22 point game in the second set. The time listed is the official one recorded by the ITF. SofaScore shows exactly 4 hours, perhaps because the live scoring failed two points before the finish and their timer was not stopped until the feed was restored.[10]
