Content and audience

Education Ecosystem is a decentralized learning ecosystem for online education and professional development that teaches people how to build complete products in future technological fields and to improve their job skills.[8][9] Their ecosystem consists of two networks, the internal ecosystem and the external ecosystem. The internal ecosystem participants are project creators, viewers, community moderators, project quality moderators and API application developers. The external ecosystem participants are other education companies, colleges, and adult education non-profits. The company claims that over 1,000,000 people from 194 countries have used the platform since they launched the alpha version at the end of 2015, with a focus on software development projects.[10] The beta product soon followed and more than 13,000 project creators have created over 200,000 pieces of video content. The platform is free for consumers and monetizes by charging companies for developer-relations-as-aservice (DRaaS) automation.[11][12]

Education Ecosystem does not target beginners, but those who have more than basic introductory knowledge of a field. College students and professionals majorly from the US, China, Europe and Brazil use projects to learn how to build complete products. The projects are available either as video or Livestream. Through the use of blockchain technology, specifically, Ethereum to incentivize practical learning; Education Ecosystem is building a platform where students and professionals will have the required skills to build functional real-world products. The platform rewards content creators and students with LEDU for their contributions to promote the passage of practical knowledge while spearheading cryptocurrency adoption and awareness.

History

2015-2016

LiveEdu was originally founded by Jamie Green & Dr. Michael J. Garbade in 2014 under the name Livecoding.tv.[13] The idea behind LiveEdu was inspired by Michael playing games on Twitch.tv and developing software in a Linux virtualbox environment. They came up with a question "what if there was a livestreaming platform like Twitch.tv but solely for software engineers to share code, exchange experiences, socialize and take their coding to the next level".[2] The platform became an educational live streaming site where people code products live in C/C++, C#/.Net, Java, Python, PHP, JavaScript, Ruby, iOS/Objective C, and other programming languages.[14][11][15][16][17]

LiveEdu received its first round of funding from EU Accelerator EuropeanPioneers and in 2015 it joined startup accelerator Y Combinator. The company garnered media attention after its launch, including mentions in TechCrunch,[2] CNN Money,[18] Mashable,[19] and others.

2019-present

In 2019, the company rebranded itself as Education Ecosystem, expanded their content topics and shifted to focus on monetizable projects.[20][21][22] The company announced a $10 million token crowdfunding starting on "Jan. 15th 2018" with a goal of using proceeds to build 10,000 projects in different languages - English, Chinese, Russian, and Portuguese- for the platform.[23][24] The education coin (EDU) is integrated into all core modules and transactions on Education Ecosystem including payment for all financial transactions; reward project creators, learners, site moderators, and API ecosystem developers.[25] The company has been seen at Techrunch Disrupt 2019, BlockShow Europe, CoinAgenda Summit and others.[26]

In April 2018, the company opened an engineering office in Kiev.[27]

Funding

In 2018, Education Ecosystem announced that it has raised 10 million and Chris Ji joined as advisor to the board.[28]
