History

The station opened in 1848 as Leuchars by the Edinburgh and Northern Railway. To the south was a small goods yard and to the north was the signal box, next to the level crossing. The name of the station was changed to Leuchars Junction in 1852 and changed to Leuchars (Old) in 1876. The station closed to passengers in 1921 but remained open as a goods depot. The signal box closed in 1959.[1] Leuchars railway station also served the town; the name 'Leuchars Junction' was applied to both stations at different times.
