Kumar Mukherjee

Kumar Mukherjee (born 1970) is an Indian classical vocalist. He sings Khayal, Thumri, Ghazal and Sufi Kalam.[1][2][3]

Early life

Mukherjee was born in Kolkata, India on 2 July 1970. His father, Kajal Mukherjee was a footballer who played for India for 15 years. His mother, Suvra Mukherjee, has been one of the guiding forces behind his musical pursuits and is a retired businesswoman of an MNC. Mukherjee was educated in La Martiniere Calcutta and later received an M.A in English language from Jadavpur University.[1]

Musical training

Mukherjee started his musical training in tabla from Shankar Ghosh of the Farrukhabad Gharana. After that he studied under Sanjukta Ghosh, a disciple of the singer Munawar Ali Khan of the Patiala gharana, following which he received training from Munawar Ali Khan. Apart from Munawar Ali Khan's tutelage his mother, Begum Alla Rakhi (also known as Ammaji), had an influence on Kumar's gradual development as a performer.[1]

Personal life

He married Suparna Mukherjee in 2000 and has a son, Rajkishore Mukherjee, born in 2002. Rajkishore, is also a budding Indian Classical vocalist.

Dawshobhuja-A Durgachitra

Mukherjee has also, sung, acted, composed music for a music video called Dawshobhuja-A Durgachitra which highlights the entire montage of Durga Puja. The music supervision has been done by Bickram Ghosh and the video stars Soumitra Chattopadhyay, Usha Uthup, Bickram Ghosh and Jaya Seal Ghosh. It is available on Gaana Exclusives and YouTube.

Acting Debut= Sraboner Dhara,a popular film released in 2019 ,in which,Kumar has had the honour of acting and singing in this film starring Soumitra Chatterjee,Prambrata Chatterjee,Gargi Roychoudhury.The director duo Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha have cast Kumar as himself.
