History

Khandar was famous for the ancient khandar Fort. Earlier it was the part of Ranthambhore. After independence of India it became part of Rajasthan

Demography

More than 70% of the population is literate. Languages spoken are Hindi, Harauti . In nowadays,Brahmin are in majority.

Economy

The main livelihood is agriculture. The sources of water are open wells and tube wells.

Places of interest

The Rameshwaram Temple is 20 km from Khandar on the confluence of the Banas and Chambal rivers. There is a beautiful temple of lord Chaturbhuj nathji as well as a Shiva temple on the ghat of chambal river. Which is very old monument but due to lack of care, it is collapsing. A famous yearly mela (fair) is organized a fortnight after deepawli on next poornima. Thousands and thousands people gather here in this fair from sawaimadhopur, kota, baaran districts of Rajsthan and from Sheopur dist. of M. P. As there is vast and plenty religious activities in khandar pargana (local territory) like GEETABHAWAN SATSANGMANDALS, Akhand keertan and ramayan paath is continuously in movement since somany years. People got inspiration for these activities from famous divine brahmeen mahatma Shri KRISHNANANDJI.

Other attractions

Rameshwar Dwar : Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It has Huge block on multi-angular pillers. People visit during Deepawali in crowds to see the Annual Fair.
Shivalaya Temple : It is another Lord Shiva temple built in Persian and Nagara style on the banks of River Banas.
Banipura balaji : This is attraction point for all Lord hanuman follower, This place attracts crowd because of its natural and ultimate surrounding of Taragrah fort. Gilai Sagar: This dam is situated near Khandar Kasba. In the rainy season, it is full of water. There are many crocodiles in the Dam which attract the visitors.
