Name Origin and Content

The website's name is inspired by a popular football slang in Uganda where akawowo is referred to short crisp passing that is synonymous with the type of football played by Arsenal F.C. and FC Barcelona. Akawoowo is also a word in Luganda, a local Ugandan language, that loosely translates to aroma.

The site posts news, analysis, interviews, live updates and previews of the major sports stories of the day, as well as sports-related anecdotes, rumours and videos.

Awards

In December 2017, kawowo.com was awarded as the sports website of the year by the Sports Journalists Association of Uganda. Kawowo Sports' photographer, John Batanudde, was named photographer of the year.[13]
