Rajiv Gandhi Medical College and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, which is run by Thane Municipal Corporation, is located in Kalwa.

Kalwa is developing along with the neighbouring areas of Kharegaon and Parsik Nagar. Construction of the 3rd Kalwa Bridge is also nearing to completion which would ease the traffic at the Kalwa Road junction where Mumbai-Pune Road and Thane Belapur Road meet.
