Kakhi Kavsadze

Kakhi Kavsadze (კახი კავსაძე; born June 5, 1935 in Tbilisi, Georgia) is a Georgian/Soviet film, television and stage actor.

Early life

He was born in Tbilisi. After his birth, his parents moved to Tkibuli. His father was conductor David Kavsadze. In 1941 joined the Red Army’s 224th Rifle Brigade and was captured. In the prisoner of war camp he was appointed head of the ethnographic team. After the war, on 10 January 1946, Soviet authorities arrested and charged him with treason committed by the military. He was exiled to the Sverdlovsk Oblast, where he died.

Kakhi Kavsadze graduated in 1959 from the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film University and the Rustaveli Theatre.

Career

He debuted in cinema in the 1950s. He was awarded People’s Artist (1981) and Festival Prize winner of the city of Dushanbe (1989).[1]

His notable roles include Adam (Divine Comedy), Tavadi Kotsia (Gushindelni), Devdariani (Sabraldebo daskvna), Iliko (Me, Grandma, Iliko and Ilarion), Simon Chachava (The Caucasian Chalk Circle), Lord (Richard III), Kent (King Lear) and Rasputin (Kvachi Kvachantiradze).[2]
