K. Annamalai

K. Annamalai (born 4 June 1984, Karur) is a former IPS officer who served as a Superintendent of Police in Udupi, and Chikkamagaluru district and Deputy Commissioner of Police in Bengaluru (South) Karnataka.[1] He quit his professional life and embarked We The Leaders Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization [NGO] to stimulate youngsters for the better development of the nation.[2]

Early Life and Education

K Annamalai was born in Karur district of Tamilnadu, belongs to the family of agriculture background.[3] He did his schooling in Karur and Namakkal District and pursued his Under Graduate Degree, Bachelor of Engineering Mechanical Engineering at PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu. Following that, Annamalai completed his Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing and Strategy at Indian Institute of Management [IIM], Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.[4]

Personal Life

An individual with a desire to contribute to the society entered Civil service and served in various locations for the period of almost 10 years. K Annamalai resigned in June 2019 because he decided to take up Public service for motivating the youngsters, primarily focusing on the empowerment and the development of youth and has been outspoken about the same throughout his tenure and beyond.[5]

He is now the founder of We The Leaders Foundation and also the founder and course architect of Core Talent and Leadership Development Private Limited. He is very much interested in Entrepreneurship and his favorite hobby is reading [World and Indian History], cycling, and mountaineering.[6]

Police Career

Annamalai is well known for his work and has also been called as “Karnataka Singham” because of his integrity and manful attitude on specific disputes.[7] He was a 2011 batch IPS officer and he started his police career as the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Karkala sub-division in Udupi district of Karnataka in September 2013 where he was later promoted in 1st of January, 2015 as a Superintendent of Police in the same location and served there as an SP till August, 2016. He was then transferred to Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka and continued as an SP till October 2018. He got promoted as a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru south in 2018.[8]

Inception of We The Leaders Foundation

Annamalai began his public service with the motto to foster youngsters for the better development of India. Believing that Rural India has the abundant potential for sustainable development, K Annamalai accompanied by the group of like-minded individuals started a Non-Governmental Organization called We The Leaders Foundation. This NGO focuses on the three crucial areas mainly,

  1. Skilling – from job seeking in stage 1 to job creation in stage 2.
  2. Dialogue for development.
  3. Organic farming, living with needs in control, and an alternate model of development.

Awards and Honors

Received Vice President of India award for topping the Directors assessment for the training period 2011–13 at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad.

During the combined training of All India Service Officers in 2010–11, Annamalai received the following awards,

  1. Winner of Espirit-de-corps award at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration instituted by 1968 batch of IAS officers.
  2. Received Sangay Lhaden Shenga award for showing Exemplary Leadership Qualities, by 1992 batch of IAS officers.

Young Achievers Award at Youth Alumni Congress, PSG College of Technology in 2013.
