K-269 was first designated as a state highway in 1980. It remained the same until it became a section of a realigned US-169 and K-57 in 1999.

Route description

K-269 began at a diamond interchange where, US-169 and K-57 left the freeway, and traveled northwest along modern day Northwest Minnesota Road. From here K-269 continued northeast through rural farmlands, and soon past under Missouri Road. The highway continued about another one mile (1.6 km), crossed Elm Creek, as it curved to the north. It continued north from here, crossed under Nevada Road, then reached its northern terminus at US-54.

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) tracks the traffic levels on its highways, and in 1999, they determined that on average the traffic was 1765 vehicles just south of the northern terminus.[3]

History

In a June 30, 1980 resolution, US-169 and K-57 were realigned to run directly northsouth through Iola. Also at this time, K-269 was first designated a state highway and ran from K-57 and US-169 north to.[1] In a September 20, 1991 resolution, it was proposed to build a new alignment of K-57 and US-169 was built from the southern terminus of K-269 north to Colony.[4] The project was completed on October 31, 1999, and at that time, K-269 was decommissioned and became part of the new K-57 and US-169.[2]
