Julius Victor Carus

Julius Victor Carus (July 25, 1823 – March 10, 1903) was a German zoologist, comparative anatomist and entomologist.

Career

Carus was born in Leipzig. He served as curator of the Museum of Comparative Anatomy at Oxford University from 1849 to 1851, and as professor of comparative anatomy and director of the Zoological Museum at the University of Leipzig in 1853.[1]

Carus was an early supporter of Darwinism. With Charles Darwin's approval he became his German translator. In 1875, Carus issued a German edition of Darwin's collected works.[2]
