Playing career

Ferris made his début in 1996 for the Canberra Raiders in the round 3 match against Parramatta.[2] In 1997, Ferris moved to North Queensland who were one of the teams that joined the rival super league competition that year. Ferris played 7 games as North Queensland finished last on the table claiming the wooden spoon.

In 1999, Ferris joined Cronulla-Sutherland and in his first season at the club they won the minor premiership. Cronulla were then tipped to be one of the favourites to win the competition but lost to rivals St George in the preliminary final 24-8 after leading the game at halftime. In 2001, Ferris made 27 appearances as Cronulla finished 4th and reached the preliminary final against Newcastle but lost 18-10.[3]

In 2002, Ferris joined the now defunct Northern Eagles and played in the club's last ever game a 68-28 loss against Penrith. In 2003, Ferris joined Manly-Warringah, playing 1 season with the club. His last game in Australia was a 40-10 loss against Melbourne.

In 2005, Ferris joined English club Leigh and played 1 season with them before retiring.

Controversy

In November 2009, Ferris was assaulted by two men at Glen Innes and required corrective facial surgery after the attack.[4] In 2010 Ferris was sentenced to at least 13 months in jail after he was convicted of stealing $7,500 from his former employers, the Criterion Hotel in Gundagai, in October 2009.[5] He was also charged with a mid-range drink driving offence and two offences of driving with a disqualified license. On appeal, he had his sentence downgraded.[6]
