Istanbul Faculty of Medicine

Istanbul Faculty of Medicine is one of the two faculties of medicine of Turkey's oldest university, Istanbul University. It is the continuation of the first medicine faculty of Istanbul known as the Mekteb-i Tıbbiye, Şahane, founded in 1827. It is the first medical school established with the start of university reform, and is responsible for numerous medical developments and training of medical professionals and scientists. Nobel laureate scientist Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar graduated from this institution. Due to its location in Çapa section of Fatih district, it is mostly known as Çapa Medical Faculty.

History

It is the first institution where modern medical education started in Turkey. In 1967, it was divided into two institutes: Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine and Istanbul Faculty of Medicine.[1]
