It has many art deco features, including clocks, paintings and decorative panels.[4][5]

Owned and managed by the local authority, the building hosted events such as variety shows, tea dances and weddings from March 1930 until its closure in the mid-1980s.[6][7] It lay dormant for around 30 years until Islington Council funded its refurbishment, and it reopened in 2010,[8] almost 80 years to the day since it first opened.[7][9]

The venue also hosted the 2019 Kerrang! Awards, a ceremony celebrating achievements in rock music.[10]
