International University in Geneva

The International University in Geneva (IUG) -- founded in 1997 -- is a private business school [1][2][3] is in Geneva, Switzerland.[4] The business school is at the International Centre Cointrin,near to Geneva Airport, the United Nations Office at Geneva and the Palexpo Convention Centre.

History

Founded with the aim of providing a multicultural education, the IUG has the status of a not-for-profit Swiss Private Foundation.[5] Its first president was David Williamson (former president of DuPont).[6] IUG has 270 students.[7]

Academic programs

The International University in Geneva offers undergraduate and graduate programs in several disciplines, including international relations, media and communications, computer science, business administration, international management, and international trade.[8][9] The business school offers joint degrees at the Bachelor level with Plymouth University, UK. A Doctorate in Business Administration and Public Administration jointly offered with Plymouth University is also available.[10]

The International University in Geneva is neither accredited by the Swiss OAQ,[11] nor it is a Swiss university.[12]

International

The International University in Geneva has both institutional accreditation and program accreditation. It is accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) as an Independent Higher Education Institution. The British Accreditation Council (BAC) is referenced with the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR). Programs are accredited by the ACBSP which is recognized by the CHEA, and by IACBE. Accredited programs are the MBA, Masters of Media & Communication, Masters of International Management, Masters of International Trade and Masters of International Relations & Diplomacy. Bachelors offered include: Business Administration, International Relations and Media & Communication.[13][14]

The International University in Geneva is referenced as an accredited institution on the World Higher Education Database (WHED) of the International Association of Universities (IAU).[15]

People

The president is Eric Willumsen (founder and executive vice-president).[16] The chancellor is Claude Martin, former Director General of World Wide Fund for Nature.[17]

Exchange programmes

IUG has developed educational affiliation agreements for study-abroad in Europe including Boston University[18] and Shanghai Jiao Tong University[19] in Shanghai, ESIC Madrid in Spain,[20] Metropolia University of Applied Sciences Helsinki in Finland,[21] Institut Supérieur du Commerce Paris in France[22] and Yeditepe University Istanbul in Turkey.[23]

IUG developed educational affiliation agreements for study-abroad in North and South America including Tulane in New Orleans, IUP in Pennsylvania, MIIS in California, UConn in Connecticut, Champlain College in Vermont, Anahuac University in Mexico City, Universidad Externado de Colombia in Colombia and Universidad de San Ignacio de Loyola in Peru.

Finally IUG also developed affiliation agreements for study-abroad in Asia with the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi - India.[24][25]

Extra-curricular activities

IUG has a Model UN Team that participates in Harvard WorldMUN and United Ambassadors MUNC Geneva conferences organized annually. Additionally IUG has a football team that practices regularly and plays matches with other university teams in Geneva.
