Ieuan Rees

Ieuan (pronounced "YIGH-in" )[2] Rees (born about 1941) is a veteran stone cutter, artist, teacher and as of late, a YouTube star from Ammanford, Wales.[3][4]

Education and early life

Ieuan Rees was educated at the Royal College of Art and graduated in 1967 with a Master of Design degree.[5] He worked as a freelance artist and craftsman and he has worked on such mediums as vellum, stone, glass, wood and metal.[6] Rees is regarded as one of the most versatile artists in the UK. He is also a Fellow and past chairman of the Society of Scribes and Illuminators. He is a full member of the Royal Cambrian Academy of Art as well as an honorary member of both the Washington Calligraphers Guild and the Colleagues of Calligraphy, Minneapolis.[5] He has lectured and given workshops throughout the UK, the US and in Sydney, Australia.[6] He has designed stone carvings for the Vicar of Dibley TV series, for opening titles in other UK comedies and has designed works for public buildings including the Senedd in Cardiff, Wales.[3]

Recent fame

Ieuan Rees's most recent claim to fame is via the "Best Unintentional ASMR" channel on YouTube. This YouTube video came about due to a project from "Artisan Media" in 2012. They had intended on video taping artists at work and selling the videos, however, he was "too niche" so they put it on YouTube and forgot about it, as did Rees himself.[4] It would be eventually picked up by "Best Unintentional ASMR" where it would go on to gather more than 2 million viewings, spawn a "Go fund me" campaign, as a way of saying "Thank You" for the video , which is now closed, and get him interviewed by the BBC,[1] The South Wales Guardian[3] and Inside Edition[4] and a write up in the Sovereigner.[6]
