Honeybees (food)

Honeybees (Chinese: 蜜蜂) are consumed as a food in parts of China, including Yunnan. It is considered a Chinese delicacy; according to a worker at a Yunnan-based specialty restaurant, the bees are best served "deep-fried with salt and pepper". Kellie Schmitt of CNN described the dish as one of "Shanghai's weirdest foods".[1]

Most commonly consumed in Yunnan, honeybees in that area are difficult to find, and one has to venture far in order to find them. A worker at a Yunnan-based honeybees restaurant claims that the bees are best served "deep-fried with salt and pepper", and goes on to describe the dish as "naturally sweet and tasty".[1]
