Hilary Childs-Adams

Hilary Childs-Adams is the Canadian Ambassador to Libya and served as ambassador to Lebanon[1] and as deputy head of mission at the Embassy to Germany.[2] She replaced David Sproule in October 2017.[3]

During her tenure, Childs-Adams has not been based in Tripoli but in Tunis.[4]

In 2019, Childs-Adams met with representatives of Khalifa Haftar - a delegation from the Tobruk-based House of Representatives - in Tunis. The Libyan Canadian Committee for Human Rights and Justice condemned the meeting claiming “that the meeting came to burnish Haftar's public image and boost his spirit, after his failure to take over Tripoli all this time.“[5]

She earned a BSL with Honours from Laurentian University in 1976 and worked at the House of Commons until she entered public service in 1978. At first, she worked as a deputy solicitor general before joining the Department of External Affairs in 1980 as a foreign service officer.[6]
