Biography

Hamududu studied for a BA in economics at the University of Zambia and subsequently worked as an economist in Botswana.[1][2][3] He joined the United Party for National Development (UPND) and was elected to the National Assembly in the Bweengwa constituency in the 2006 general elections, replacing the previous UPND MP Japhet Moonde who had died.[3] He was re-elected in the 2011 general elections. In February 2016 President Edgar Lungu claimed that he had offered Hamududu the post of Deputy Finance Minister, but had been rejected.[4] Hamududu was not selected as the UPND candidate for the 2016 elections; Kasautu Michelo was selected in his place and won the seat.[5]

In March 2017 Hamududu resigned from the UPND,[6] before launching the Party for National Unity in May 2017.[1] The new party was funded by Lungu in an effort to split the UPND vote in southern Zambia.[7] In January 2018 Lungu appointed Hamududu as an Economic Advisor.[8]
